The sword’s design draws inspiration from the Celtiberians, adopted by Romans in the 3rd century BC during their Hispania conquest, embodying the spirit of the Gladius Hispaniensis, or Hispanic Sword.
In the chaos of battle, the Gladius was used strategically after launching javelins, creating a disarray among enemy lines. Armed with their shield in the forefront and Gladius at ready, the Roman soldiers plunged into close combat, displaying its dual capability for both thrusting and cutting maneuvers.
Every feature of the Gladius narrates a story of craftsmanship. The blade, constructed from Pattern-Welded Damascus steel, showcases a mesmerizing blend of strength and beauty. This hard, heat-treated, folded carbon steel is formed with 11 pieces of steel, folded five times to create a staggering 352 layers.
The core ingredient of our Damascus steel is 1095 steel, recognized for its high carbon content and extensively used in sword making. Its layered structure strikes a perfect balance – a robust edge capable of retaining its sharpness, coupled with the flexibility and strength to resist powerful impacts.
Complementing the blade, the handle is fashioned from Micarta, accented with brass bolsters, adding a sense of balance and sophistication. Each Gladius comes with a durable leather sheath for safekeeping.
